ADDING CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY TO A LIFE COACHING PRACTICE

Many of the students who enroll in the NEIH.COM Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification program are practicing Life Coaches. In fact, Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching are like peas in a pod in many ways.  They work so well together because one is conscious state work[Life Coaching] & one is subconscious state work [Hypnotherapy].

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that can be used easily and effortlessly to help change client behaviors and belief patterns and it is the best way to create fast, permanent change.  On the other hand, Life Coaches in most ways act as “change agents”, helping clients to clarify their current situations, to establish measurable goals,  to create action plans, and then mentoring to achieve those goals.   Even the most committed Life Coaching client will be required to “paddle upstream” if he holds hidden but powerful belief systems that are counter to the beliefs needed to create the desired changes.  Clinical Hypnotherapy can powerfully support the client’s goals and create upgraded belief systems that will facilitate achieving those goals.  It’s a perfect adjunct to the coaching process.

HOW TO INTEGRATE CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY INTO A LIFE COACHING SESSION

Clinical Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching are like PB & J.  They work together so well and in most cases, they can be used to reinforce the specific benefits of each other.   Life Coaching is an analytical, conscious state modality that combines mentoring with goal formation and action planning.  Hypnotherapy is subconscious state work that utilizes the power of the client’s subconscious to upgrade beliefs that are handicapping the client and to change behaviors that aren’t supporting his goals.

Integrating PB & J, or Life Coaching and Clinical Hypnotherapy is easy.  Make every client aware that you will be offering Clinical Hypnotherapy.  That simple announcement will start the ball rolling as clients call up to find out if you can help them with situation x-y-or-z.   Expand that announcement to every practitioner with whom you network.  It’s sometimes surprising how often other highly-qualified practitioners will call you for Hypnosis help for a personal challenge they’re dealing with.  Create a separate business card for your Hypnotherapy practice and add Hypnotherapy to your existing business card the next time you need to get them printed.  There is a high demand these days for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists and session prices for NEIH  graduates are ranging between $150.-$250. per 1-hour session based on geographic location.

To attract more coaching and Hypnotherapy clients, you can offer Group Stop Smoking sessions or a Group Weight Loss program.  As people get to know you and trust you, they will recommend you to friends who will call you for private sessions or they will come to you for private work.   In addition to being fun and a change of pace, group sessions result in private work, always.

LIFE COACHES CAN OFFER CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY TO EXISTING CLIENTS

Already have an existing client base ?  It makes a lot of sense to vertically market to your base by offering them other services that many will find helpful.  And they get the added benefit of working with someone they know and trust.  Offering a service that a percentage of the base will ultimately seek elsewhere saves your clients the time of having to find a qualified Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist that they like, and you have the assurance of knowing that they will get quality Clinical Hypnotherapy sessions.  In addition, you further anchor your client base, in a good way.

As you know, there are a lot of people who need help in stopping smoking, losing weight and more.  At NEIH, we’ve trained many Life Coaches who enrolled in our programs solely to attract new clients by helping them with other life challenges through the use of Clinical Hypnotherapy.   And from the feedback we receive from our Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists/Life Coaches, it works !  Very often, a client who is helped by a practitioner using one modality will transition to a new modality with that same practitioner.  It’s a natural transition.

WHAT IS HYPNO-COACHING ?

Hypno-Coaching is the process of combining both Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching into the same client program. Hypno-Coaching can operate in 3 different ways in a practice.  And most Hypno-Coaching practices are going to use Hypnotherapy is all of these ways at some point.

Clinical Hypnotherapy as a separate modality is pretty self-explanatory.  A client comes to you to lose weight or a client comes to you to stop smoking.  Clinical Hypnotherapy alone is the best approach in these cases.

With Hypnotheray as primary, you and your client are definitely in a face-to-face session.  You need to be close at hand to make sure that the Hypnosis session is going as planned.  You may be dealing with a client application like Self-Esteem which is better suited to Hypnotherapy than Life Coaching, at least in the beginning of the program.  Starting the program with Clinical Hypnotherapy allows for fast and easy belief re-creation which is a key component to this application.  As the client’s sense of self begins to improve, a transition into Life Coaching is a great way to help the client to decide what changes need to be made, formulate a plan, and mentor the client through the process.

With Life Coaching as primary, you and your client may choose to do the coaching component by phone even if you are living in the same geographic area.  Or you and your client may choose to meet for each session.  It’s up to you.

Your client will have a definite Life Coaching application, such as being under-employed and wanting a promotion or an entrepreneur starting his own business who needs guidance and encouragement from the Life Coach.  In this situation, the Life Coach might determine that a road-block the client has encountered is based on a belief structure that is holding him back.  At that point, the Life Coach might wisely decide to use Clinical Hypnotherapy to upgrade the client’s belief to one that supports his goals.  In this situation although not the primary modality, Hypnotherapy would be an invaluable tool to help the Life Coach assist his client in reaching his goals.

IN WHAT WAYS ARE HYPNOTHERAPY AND LIFE COACHING DIFFERENT ?

The primary difference is that Life Coaching is left-brain, analytical conscious state work.  There is a lot of discussion on what point the client is in his life, what sort of coaching is appropriate, what specific goals the client has, co-creating action plans to achieve them, and mentoring throughout the process.  The Life Coach often assigns projects for the client to complete between sessions which are reviewed and sometimes refined during the next coaching session. Sessions are usually weekly or bi-monthly and programs can be as long as a year or more.   Coaching is conversational, analytical, and involve mentoring.

Hypnotherapy is a fast, pleasant process that requires no more of a client than participating in the initial interview, sitting quietly during the Hypnosis sessions, and providing the Certified Hypnotherapist with updates on subsequent sessions so that progress can be determined and adjustments made.  The APA classified Hypnotherapy as a “brief therapy” and it is.  Normally 3-12 Hypnotherapy sessions will handle the most complex situations such as stress reduction, pain management, weight loss of 50 lbs or more. There is little conversation other than the initial interview and updates at the time of each session.   The obvious work is being down by the Hypnotherapist who conducts the Hypnosis sessions, while the subtle work is being done by the client’s subconscious mind.  In many ways, it is a magical process.

Life Coaching is analytical conscious-state work, involves a lot of conversation between coach and client, frequently done over the phone, and it is sometimes a fairly long term process.  Clinical Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy involving little conversation or analysis, with the Clinical Hypnotherapist doing most of the conscious state work while the client’s subconscious mind does the important integrative work.  However, the client feels like he’s taking a bit of a nap while his “work” is going on and that level of relaxation has ongoing benefits for the client.

These 2 therapeutic approaches are so complementary to each other that it makes total sense to integrate them into the same practice.  Fortunately, for Life Coaches reading this page, a high quality, affordable Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification can be earned through the New England Institute of Hypnotherapy, the premier US provider of career-quality Clinical Hypnotherapy Certification trainings.  Please feel free to call our office at 888-457-7999 with questions.
